What it costs
At Trasna, we do not charge you for our service. (We receive an administration fee from the hospital you choose).
Before you travel, we make sure you are aware of all the costs you are likely to incur.
The HSE requires you to pay the hospital first and on your return home submit a form with relevant paperwork to get the reimbursement rate back.
We can advise you on HSE reimbursement rates and assist with getting finance from your Bank/Credit Union. Remember the HSE doesn’t reimburse any costs that you incurred like flights, taxis, and general out-of-pocket expenses.
We present you with a choice of hospitals with their costs.
Example: Patients traveling for a Hip Replacement:

Patient Stories
PJ (46) is from Co Wexford and travelled to the renowned Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London for a full Knee replacement operation in February 2019.
He paid €4000 last summer for a cartilage procedure but this didn’t work so he went on a public waiting list for a knee replacement.
“The thought of waiting 30 months was terrible but with the operation costing €14,500 here I knew I couldn’t manage it. PJ was glad when a cousin’s internet search led him to looking at options under the CrossBorder Directive with the assistance of Trasna. PJ borrowed money for the payment required to pay up front, as you can only apply for reimbursement from the HSE after you have had your treatment and submitted all the paperwork.
Regarding Trasna’s service, “I can’t sing Trasna’s praises enough. I rang on the 10th January and I had my operation on 28th February. Everything went smoothly and stayed with my sister in the UK a few days afterwards. Three months later I’m back at work on light duties”.
Margaret (69) from Dublin was concerned regarding a recent diagnosis and has even more concerned about the waiting time to see a consultant at home. A family member mentioned Trasna to her and she decided to get in touch.
Margaret says, “a simple phone call and a week later I was “booked in” to see a leading specialist in London to review my condition. I couldn’t believe how easy it was and everyone in Trasna was so friendly and helpful. My consultant was outstanding and very professional. I haven’t looked back since and have great reassurance about my condition”.
